Hawaii Ocean Safety Team (HOST) was formed in 1998 as a non-profit organization whose vision is to promote stewardship of Hawaii’s waters and enhance ocean safety. HOST is comprised of representatives from business, government, and the community who are committed to identifying maritime concerns and developing solutions before they become major issues.
During 2005, HOST conducted six Membership Meetings that included such topics as the Salvage of various local boat groundings, Commercial and Recreational boat conflicts, Harbor congestion, Homeland Security, NOAA Weather Broadcasts, Marine Protected Areas and Whales vs Vessels. HOST participated in the 7th Annual National Harbor Safety Conference in Long Beach , the Hawaii Boat Show, HIRSA Annual Meeting, and Get-the-drift-and-bag-it. HOST revised SOP 9-98 Temporary Shelters and SOP 6-98 VHF/FM Communications Procedures. HOST continued to utilize its extensive network to notify the members of various safety and security issues. HOST testified at a Senate hearing regarding harbor congestion and the need for tugs in Hawaii ports.

During 2005, the Board met on the following dates: January 13, February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 2, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 3 and December 8. All Board meetings were held from 1500 to 1700 at the Hawaii Yacht Club.
During 2005, the Membership met on the following dates: February 17, April 21, June 16, August 25, October 20 and December 8. All membership meetings were held from 1400 to 1600 at the Marine Education Center with the exception of the December meeting, which was held at the Hawaii Yacht Club.
